No Podcast This Week

For once, we're not having a podcast this week. Why? Because on Monday, Jeff was in Erie, and Richie was sick. On Tuesday Jeff was sick (not sure about Richie), and Jeff usually works on Tuesdays anyway. On Wednesday (today), Jeff is still sick. If we miss Mondays, we usually make it up on Wednesday, but nobody else knows how to produce the podcast. Jeff is home sick today with Peruvian Immigrant's Fever and won't be able to make it. He must have picked it up when he was in Erie, hanging out with all those Peruvian immigrants. See you next week!

AHG - Episode 22 - Whatcha Been' Reading (12/06/07)

I apologize for the tardiness of this episode, but on Monday school was canceled, leaving us without equipment to record with; Tuesday Matt and I both worked; and we recorded it last night. I was too tired to publish it at 11:15, so I just let it upload. We have a good episode this week, though. Matt's gone because he had to work tonight, so we can't be mad at him for missing this as in previous episodes. Patrick and I stray far from video games this week to discuss our social lives, colleges (again), and for the most part literature. What we've been reading, favorite books, and etc. We also talk about the diction in the name "Average Hardcore Gamer" and why it was chosen. "Average Core Gamer" doesn't sound too good, and "Average Dedicated Fanatic" doesn't quite roll.

In the news we start off doing a round-robin/4 minute warning type thing where we did 2 minutes on each item, but got sick of it and just kept talking (it was only implemented to aggravate the people learning HTML in the next room with buzzer sounds).

Here's the commercial I was talking about on episode 17. I made it in my Video Tech class using Final Cut Studio 2 (with Final Cut Pro 6), Adobe Photoshop CS3, and yes, that is the "The Internet is a Series of Tubes" speech techno remix you hear.

This version is pretty low quality--I can put the high quality version up through the FTP if anyone wants (it's a little clearer that Miyamoto is fighting himself and Shane Bettenhausen lazors a 1up mushroom).

We have a friend on this week (Nate) to talk about comics during our entertainment section (formerly the anime section). We had four guests this week and things got hectic. Then we had the news, which we kicked off with Patrick singing a beautiful rendition of a song from Rurouni Kenshin. Then we just talked about comics with Matt sitting out of the line of fire of the microphone. Next week will be a better episode, in the tradition of the E3 episode where itâs all news from TGS. Then the next week we may - may - have a video episode with footage from the Halo 3 release in Nowhere, Vermont.

It was like taking water out of a bucket, teaspoon by teaspoon. After a very short news segment and a not so short post-news segment discussion, we got to the kickoff thing for a semi-recurring segment about anime. Then we got to talking about GameJew (http://www.gamejew.com/), then we got back to anime. This episode was fun to participate in, but I can't imagine it'll be fun to listen to.

Omid was with us again (only not over the phone, ohmygod) for our 38-minute whatcha' been' playin' segment, burned through the news, and got right on to our discussion of the Bioshock demo and John Woo's Stranglehold demo. Caution to whoever hasn't played the demo but wants to play Bioshock on Tuesday: we don't want to ruin any opinions of it (overhyping, mostly), so don't listen to it if you haven't (or you just don't care). This is also the first episode with a media rating -- on the first episode I was just mindlessly clicking through everything and accidentally hit clean. We're very naughty.

Nothing really big happened in the news this week, so we got to pull another discussion out of the hat, however, a Bioshock demo was released as we were doing the podcast, so we didn't get to talk about it. Sorry. With much digression, we came to the conclusion that Luna Lovegood (from the Harry Potter series), or at least, Evanna Lynch (the actress who plays Luna) will be our wife.

This week, after a rousing whatcha' been' playin' segment, we discussed some news- some new, some not so much (i.e. occurred just after we recorded last week). Then we got into the real meat of the show: the discussion segment. Oh goody, this week we talked with our Nintendo-64 nut friend and looked back on the life of that dear old (kinda crappy, almost) system. This week also brought about a new area we haven't touched on in the past- the "guest kennel," where the guests talk from (for hosts are vastly superior).

Sorry this episode is being published a little late- yesterday I was far too tired to edit it (Garage Band was acting up too). Ah, our first episode, and what an episode it was. Matt and I sat down and discussed the highs and lows of Lost Planet, Pokemon, and others in whatcha' been playin', and moved on to the news. Here's that video of Welcome to the Jungle in Rock Band I promised.

Then we went on to our discussion segment, which was all about Blizzard, and more specifically, Starcraft 2 (finally). A good start for what we hope will be a successful podcast (who wants to hear from two high schoolers?).
